Since Eden Spodek (Bargainista) and Kate Trgovac set up the 'After a Fashion' group in Second Life, a bunch of us female marketing types get together now and then and teleport around the virtual world looking for freebies and splurging on must-haves for our virtual selves. Recently we extended our virtual meet-ups to real life get-togethers at Cozy Nails. Much like inworld we chat, share, and treat ourselves to a little pimping.
A couple of months ago Tab Energy reached out to Eden Spodek, organizer of all things Cozy Nails. They'd identified her as a 'Fabulous Girl', I expect through her fashion blog, and offered to send some schwag for her next 'Fabulous Girl Party'. It's interesting to see how big brands are reaching out to bloggers as part of their marketing efforts. Eden figured what better way to participate than sharing it with her fellow bloggers (and fabulous girls?) at the next Cozy Nail party. Joining the party was Katharine Came, June Li, Michelle Tampoya, Jenny Bullough, and the original fabulous girl Eden Spodek.
So with toes and nails prettily painted we took the Tab box to Soho Bistro, a local patio and ordered brunch. The restaurant was really good about letting us unpack and create a sea of pink on the table. We all cracked our tabs and took sips with the pink curly straws they provided. The 'don't give them a reason to say no' make-out mints provided a good laugh.
Tab has never found its way to my tastebuds before but I was a little curious to see what all the hype is about after seeing their recent ads and promotions. At 80mg it has more caffeine than a standard cup of coffee. Each can has a recommended dose of 1-2 cans per day but it's recommended you don't drink more than 2 cans a day. I liked the taste well enough but I can't see it replacing coffee, my caffeine injected fuel of choice. And since it's carbonated I wouldn't use it while running or cycling.
But all in all it was fun sampling the pink bubbly. Jenny Bullough was the biggest fan of the group and shared her thoughts on video - see below.

Hi Kathryn,
Thanks for posting!
[Hey Kate - we mixed Tab+mints, hoping for a Coke+Mentos effect, but nothing happened. The Tab just tasted a bit strange with cinnamon-flavoured mints :)
I was wondering what "taurine" was. Here's what I found in Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taurine):
"...Taurine is not an "upper" and has no known stimulatory effect on the body. It is unclear why taurine is added to energy drinks but the inhibitory effect on neurotransmission might reduce the jittery effect of high caffeine dosages...
Cheers,
June

Hey, I'm on YouTube! Gee I can't wait to tell my mom!! :)
I fear my turn as reluctant spokesmodel for Tab Energy may have been premature. I still maintain that I felt no immediate ill effects, and didn't feel jittery or wired (the taurine, perhaps?), but about 5 hours later I experienced the most massive, crushing, migraine-like headache I've ever had. Luckily my husband was on had to administer Advil liqui-gels and a shot of cold vodka.
Was this the result of a Tab Energy come-down? Or simple coincidence? In the name of science and public service I will attempt another test later this week with the leftover cans of Tab Energy, and report back to the group!
Best,
Jenny
